Knowledge and Practice of Breast Self-Examination among Female staff of educational hospitals of Shahrekord

Background: Breast cancer is the most common malignancy in women. The aim of this study was to assess Female staff of educational hospitals of Shahrekor University of Medical knowledge of breast cancer and their practice of BSE.Methods: This cross-sectional descriptive questionnaire study was conducted between 2016 and 2017 and included female staff of educational hospitals of Shahrekor University of Medical .The group sample was selected through stratified random method from these staff. In order to determine the levels of awareness in studied society answers to the 20 questions for level of knowledge were scored and scores were categorized in four levels. In the performance section, the questionnaire with 4options( has neverو been 6 to 7 times a year irregularly, 7 to 11 times a year and every month regularly). At the end, the information were analysed by using software SPSSV16. Results: In the total 289 people entered the study that their average age was 35.6 ±5.4 years . 180 persons (%62.2) of individuals participated in the study were married and the rest were single. people%77.3 had medium knowledge score.103 persons (%35.6) never had done breast self exam and only 9.6% (28 person) stated that they do it monthly. In total Knowledge about breast cancer moderate and their performance were evaluated poor .Conclusion: Moderate awareness and poor performance of staff as the most populous health community community show the need for more attention in this field. Therefore, it seems that educational planners and hospital staff should seek to educate women employees about this important health behavior.
