Abstract:
Background: Breast cancer is the most prevalent cancer among women. Breast cancer diagnosis and treatment such as surgery could cause serious psychological and physical side effects. A local treatment option for newly breast cancer women in stage I, II is Breast conserving therapy. The aim of this study was to determine the effectiveness of comprehensive Nurse-led program on quality of life dimensions in newly breast cancer women after breast conserving therapy. Method and material: This randomized clinical trial was carried out in institute cancer of Imam Khomeini hospital. The sample consisted of 72 participants were randomly assigned to intervention (n=36) and control (n=36) groups. All participants completed QOL questionnaire (QOL-BC) at admission and at the end of study. The intervention group received comprehensive Nurse-led program consisted of pre and post-surgery education, 2 home visits and 1 call every week from discharge of hospital to sixth weeks after that. The control group received hospital routine care. Results: Significant differences between intervention and control groups were not observed in all domains of QOL Before intervention. The results demonstrated improvement in physical, emotional, social and spiritual domains of QOL in intervention group (P<0.001). All participation in intervention group had better QOL domains after intervention. Conclusion: In conclusion comprehensive nurse- led program can be used to improve quality of life domains among newly breast cancer patients after BCT.
