Abstract:

Introduction and aim: breast cancer in the most common malignancy in women and the second leading cause of cancer death, following lung cancer. The role of some of viruses has been considered in breast cancer etiology. There are contradictory evidences for association between Human Papilloma Virus and breast cancer occurrence. The present systematic review aimed to investigate the association between Human Papilloma Virus and breast cancer. Methods: The present systematic review was studied all observational studies by January 2018 in four steps in English and Persian data banks including, ,WOS ,Medline ,Science direct ,Elsevier ,PubMed/Medline, Scopus and Google Scholar ،Magiran ، Irandoc. The first, using appropriate keywords and Boolean Operators depending the data banks all related studies were considered. In second step, a list of titles and abstracts of those studies was provided. In order to selecting relevant studies and considering study s inclusion criteria, two researchers studied carefully each article separately. In the third step, researchers used STROBE, a 22 items checklist tool for quality assessment includes studies reporting. All studies were summarized in poor, mild and good- quality studies. At the final step, Newcastle-Ottawa Scale (NOS) was used for proper quality assessment of selected studies. In order to ensuring a complete reporting the present systematic review we utilized PRISMA checklist. Results: Of 80 studies identified, 47 met all the inclusion criteria. The total sample size include 6667 samples of breast tissues (5000 cases of metastatic breast cancers and 1667 cases of early breast tumors and non-cancerous women). Considering these samples revealed that Papilloma Virus infected 82/9 % of them significantly and type 16, 18, 31 and 58 were more common than the other types. Conclusion: Our findings suggest that there is an association between Papilloma Virus, particularly high-risk types, with breast malignant tumor occurrence.
