Introduction: Schizophrenia is a mental disorder that affects 1% of the world s population which Environmentaland genetic factors are effective in its development. Researches have found the disease has high heritability.Several genes have been identified that play important role in schizophrenia. The major symptoms ofSchizophrenia can be divided into two categories: positive and negative symptoms. There are many evidence thatvariants of DRD2 and Glutathione Transferase gene, are associated with Schizophrenia. In the present study therelationship between Ser311cys polymorphism of DRD2 and were studied. This variant can change the level ofDopamine in the brain.Methods: This case-control study included 50 patients suffering Schizophrenia referred to Yazd neuropsychiatryhospital as case and 50 healthy subjects as control group. After extracting DNA, Ser311cys polymorphism, usingPCR-RFLP.Results: Analysis of the data showed no significant difference between Ser311Cys polymorphism and incidenceof schizophrenia (p: 0.495).Conclusion: The results of this study showed that Ser311Cys polymorphism is not common among the studiedpatients, therefore it indicates its non-effectiveness in the study population. However, because the studypopulation is not representative of the entire Iranian population, further studies with larger population are needed.
