Abstract:

Introduction: Autistic disorder is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by impairment in socialinteraction and verbal communication, and repetitive/ stereotypic behaviors. The association of the NeuropeptideY (NPY) gene has been studied in some neurological diseases such as anxiety and autism disorders. In this study, the association of rs16147 polymorphism of the NPY gene, in a sample of Iranian Azari ASD patients wasevaluated.Method: Allele of rs16147 polymorphism of the NPY gene in 79 samples of Iranian Azari Turkish ASD patientsand 100 healthy control individuals were assessed by RFLP-PCR method. Results: No significant difference of rs16147 polymorphism of NPY gene alleles frequency and genotypes werefound between ASD patients and healthy controls , (p value> 0 .05).Conclusion: These results indicate that specific variants at the NPY gene no significantly associate with ASDdiseases.
