Abstract:

The transistor is the fundamental element of digital IC s. It has been patented in 1926 by Julius Lilienfel and has been invented in 1947 by John Bardeen, Walter Brattain and William Shockly in 1947. Transistor, as electronic switch, has been used in memory cells. Since each switch has two states on and off and Boolean algebra has been used to describe the behavior of memory cells and consequently digital systems. For reasons stated earlier, binary (base-two) numbers, which represents numeric values using two different symbols: typically 0 (zero) and 1 (one), has been used in computer architecture and digital devices. After years of construction of the first computers, the transfer of information in the communications industry has been particular important. To alleviate this problem, scientists have used wide range of code for detecting data transmission errors such as; error detecting code with parity bit, biquinary code and etc. Hamming code is one of the most important and widely used codes among these codes that bothdetect and correct the errors. In this research, at first, Number of error detection codes have been identified and described. Then advantages and disadvantages of each code have been investigated. Finally, the Hamming code and its application in error detection have been explained and its advantage over another code has been explained.
