Abstract:
Nurses constitute a large community in hospitals and they play a big role in healthcare organizations. Nurses are vulnerable to burnout. Since they spend most of their time with patients, nurses are constantly subjected to stressors at the workplace. As the main provider of healthcare services to Malaysians, an understanding of the effects of such stressors on burnout among nurses in public hospitals is essential. Hence, this paper seeks to provide a review and synthesis of the literature and eventually develop a model linking organizational stressors (ineffective communication, reduced career growth opportunities and lack of social support) to burnout of nurses within the context of public hospitals in Malaysia
