Abstract:

Undoubtedly, teachers are one of the most important participants in educational system, and their responsibility in schools extends beyond performing and delivering the curriculum. Moreover, a competent teacher should be aware of and be able to respond to the way of new development in teaching (Lewis & Munn, 1997). In other words, effective teaching requires teacher engagement in educational research in order to improve the standards of their teaching. Teachers’ conceptions of research are a way to improve the quality of teaching and learning process (Borg, 2009). Regarding the significant implications and contributions that teachers research engagement can make, the present study delves thoroughly into the theoretical framework underlying research. It then compares and contrasts different questionnaires which aim to elicit teachers conceptions towards research. Moreover, the present review seeks to increase teachers awareness and improve their perceptions’ of research especially in their teaching methodology. Finally, in the light of the literature, the present paper brings to the fore the challenges and opportunities that teacher can face and provide some lines for future research
