Abstract:

There has been a growing body of research about driver training and its effectiveness on driver’s performance toward a safer driving style. In recent years, most of the researchers mainly put their interest on presenting new methods of training which could lessen accident risk of drivers after training. What many of these studies lack, is a proper way to evaluate driver’s performance before and after training. Without finding a proper measure correlating to driver’s accident and being practical to calculate, evaluation of the effectiveness of training methods could be incomplete. In this study we aimed to introduce new measures extracted from speed and acceleration profiles which were taken from 176 of BRT drivers while normal driving in Tehran, Iran BRT lines. Results showed that there was a positive correlation between these measures and accident history of BRT drivers. As these measures were taken from driver’s naturalistic performance while driving, these results could be very promising for a real-time monitoring system which can evaluate driver’s behavior before and after training and estimate the effects of training on the behavior of drivers.
