Abstract:

Dynamic behavior of a cracked rotor is simulated under the excitation of unbalance and gravity forces. The shaft is modeled using Timoshenko beam segments supported on two visco elastic bearings. The attached disks are assumed as solid bodies. A transverse breathing crack is considered in the shaft which results in a time dependent stiffness. This time dependency causes the rotor system to be parametrically excited, and the appearance of multi harmonics response is intangible. Response of the system to the excitation is calculated using a Harmonic Balance Method (HBM). The convergence criterion is provided using Ritz series general coordinates.
