Abstract:

Due to the critical importance of translation quality to the translation studies discipline and the necessity to modify and renew our perception of what we actually mean by translation quality in the age of globalization, there is a dire need to outline a number of ways by means of which the new features, which have been introduced with the advent of globalization, can best be incorporated into the parameters used for evaluating the translation. In order to identify these new features, a case study of a representative range of Language Service Providers (LSPs) has been carried out for this research as a way to explore and factor in the issues raised in our today’s globalized world. Drawing on the empirical data obtained from this multiple case study, this study then proposes that the only solution for the scholarly models of translation to survive and be renewed in the globalized world, with its increase pressure on speedy delivery, lower costs, massive increase in demand for translation and wider reach and range of language pairs, technologization and automation of the translation process, is to try to incorporate into the models of translation quality assessment the requirements of the real-world context
