Abstract:

The present article provides some insights on the suitability of applying Socratic maieutics in reading comprehension activities in EFL settings. This method works through raising strategic hierarchical questions and is supported by three recent famous theories of constructivism, cognitive schema activation, and post constructivism.There are some benefits that are so likely to be gained using the method in reading classes. These mainly include the activation of higher–order top-down processes of comprehension, increase in the individual s self-awareness, and effective thinking- strategy application through double and triple loop learning
