Abstract:

The story of Nala and Damayanti is a part of Mahabharata. In this epic book, within the main plot of the poem, a story is mentioned when necessary, and there are similarities between the main characters of the epic and the narrated story. Nala story lies in this range. When Vṛhadashva, the narrator of the story sees similarities between Nala and Yudhishtara, he narrates this story for Yudhishtara. Some writers and poets have reiterated in verse and prose this love story; one of them, Feizi Dakani, a poet who versified this story. Despite some differences between this poem and the main Sanskrit story, the base of the story is the same anecdote mentioned in Mahabharata (Mbh). In the present essay, this epic book will be introduced first; then a summary of it is given, the story of Nala and Damayanti together with a summary is introduced, and different English and Persian translations are reviewed and criticized while differences and similarities of translations are mentioned
