Abstract:
Biotechnology is a very important industry inthe world. There are many applications for thebiotechnology; in fact this technology is used tomake new or better products in every industry suchas pharmaceuticals, textiles, chemicals, householdproducts, and food processing (Raju, 2016).Considering the importance of food in human lifeand health, there are many questions on applicationof biotechnology in agriculture and foodproduction. As a result, different opinions areexpressed in different countries about thesequestions and consequently there are differentpolicies applied by governments about geneticallymodified foods (GMFs) and crops (GMCs).GMCs were first introduced in 1994 (Bohanec etal., 2017). The first GMFs which had insectresistance and herbicide tolerance were commerciallyplanted by United States, Canada, Argentina,Mexico, China, and Australia in 1996 on 1.7 millionhectares. This was increased more than a hundredfoldto 175 million hectares in as many as 27countries, including 19 developing countries in 2013.
