Abstract:
The relative properties of concrete after an exposure to high temperatures, such as fire situation, are of great importance to be investigated regarding the serviceability of concrete construction. This paper presents the effects of elevated temperatures on the physical and mechanical properties of normal and high strength concrete. Heating temperatures was ranging from 105 to 1250ºC. After exposure, weight losses were determined just at the end of heating and then total porosity and compressive strength test was conducted. Test results indicated that contrary to total porosity, weight of the specimen was significantly reduced with an increase in temperature. This reduction was very pointed beyond 750ºC. The results also revealed that compressive strength of concrete decreased as the exposure temperature increased. Incorporating polypropylene fibers to concrete is benefic in case of high temperatures exposure.
