Geochemical Assessment Geochemical of Pabdeh Formation in Gachsaran Oil field, SW iran

In this study, Pabdeh source rock in Gachsaran oil field was geochemically evaluated using Rock-Eval 6 analyzer. To eliminate the effect of migrated oil present in the studied samples, bitumen extracted rocks were used to evaluate the source rock. Pseudo-van Krevelen diagram (HI vs. OI) showed that the studied source rock contains type IIS kerogen. This is confirmed by the results of HI vs. Tmax and S2 vs. TOC cross-plots. Pabdeh Formation has very good to excellent petroleum generation potential represented by the cross-plot of S2 vs. TOC. Based on the results obtained from HI vs. TOC diagram, the studied source rock has a fair potential to generate oil.
