Abstract:

In this experiment, rutting behavior of bitumen and HMA, which are modified by waste unplastisized polyvinyl chloride powder, were investigated. The Results demonstrated that this powder improved rheological properties of bitumen as an additive material and that modified bitumen was more resistant to rutting. As for HMA, samples containing 5% powder exhibited a decrease in optimum bitumen content value as well as a significant increase in Marshall Stability ratio to flow. It is also noteworthy to mention that this sample displayed a fall in permanent deformation of HMA; subsequently, it can be concluded that waste unplastisized polyvinyl chloride as an additive has many advantages. It can optimize waste recycling; therefore, this method has the potential to minimize eco-system pollution related to disposal of such materials in the environment and offset its negative impact, It can also slash final cost of asphalt manufacturing while increasing the resistance of HMA to rutting
