The industrial economic sector comprises an important portion of energy consumption. The rapid growth of the word energy consumption and the limited source of fuels have resulted in trying to reduce the energy wastage and also to recover it. However, to obtain this objective, an accurate energy flow diagram of a process is required. In the present work the butadiene fractionating unit in the Bandar Imam Petrochemical Complex in Iran has been studied. The equipment that are used for energy conversion, the process and energy recovery units have been classified and their efficiencies for each part have been presented in tabulated for diagram forms. It has been found that energy losses in the process unit are negligible and energy that has been recovered is considerable. Therefore, the energy of the plant is efficient. However, it can be further optimized if the compressor exergy could be recovered more efficiently.
