Abstract:
CO2 component as one of greenhouse gases causes the global warming issue. Flue gases as the main source of CO2 are being generated from burning of fossil fuels. Almost 90% of energy used by industrial processes is supplied by fossil fuels. Since using of fossil fuels is inevitable, finding some techniques to reduce considerably the emission of CO2 to the atmosphere is a challenge. In order to reduce the impact of potential global warming caused by CO2 emission, different pathways have been proposed generally known as CO2 capture methods. This study presents most common methods including solvent absorption (solvent scrubbing), physical adsorption, membrane systems, cryogenic fractionation and new method of gas hydrate. Here, the description of each method is provided separately, however, the emphasis is on CO2 capture by gas hydrate to capture CO2 is really a novel experience and is described here with more details. The effects of thermodynamic conditions of hydrate on rate of CO2 capture by hydrate formation are investigated. The effectiveness of hydrate promoters for the process of hydration of CO2 is studied as well. Furthermore the energy consumption of hydrate formation process as well as financial requirement of this process is viewed in this article.
