Magnetic carbon nanotubes/Chitosan/Polyvinyl alcohol composite film Modified Pencil electrode (Magnetic MWCNTs / Chit /PVA /PGE) was first employed for the sensitive determination of Ibuprofen(IBP). The electrochemical behavior of IBP was investigated by cyclic voltammetry (CV) and differential pulse voltammetry (DPV). The voltammetric detection of ibuprofen was carried out from −0.5 V to 1.7 V versus Ag/AgCl using Magnetic MWCNTs / Chit /PVA /PGE as transducers. The oxidation peak around 1.12 V obtained for ibuprofen while employing electrode showed maximum current response. This peak was chosen for stripping analysis on MWCNTs/Chit/PVA/PGE. The structures of the synthesized Magnetic MWCNTs / Chit /PVA composite and the electrode composition were confirmed by X-ray diffraction (XRD) spectrometry, Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectrometry and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). At the optimized chemical and instrumental conditions, differential pulse voltammetry results show that the electrocatalytic current increase linearly in the ranges of 10 to 800 ppb and detection limits (S/N = 3) for 0.3 nmol L−1 Ibuprofen. The results showed that the sensor had good sensitivity, stability, reproducibility, and specificity to detect the IBP. The proposed sensor was successfully applied for measuring the IBP concentration in real samples.
