Abstract:
This study was undertaken to perform numerical studies of heat transfer [1] in two different sand matrices. A numerical model based on Fourier’s law of heat conduction fora one-dimensional system with the variable thermal conductivity was developed. In this article we simplify and convert governing differential equation to finite difference equations and solve both explicit and implicit equations using FORTRAN programming using Gauss-Jordan, L.U.Factorization and Crank–Nicolson methods [2] [5] [6] [7] [8] [9]. The temperature profiles predicted by the model of heat conduction with a variable bulk thermal conductivity was compared by the observed temperatures in Quartz and Sea sands matrices up to1300K [4]. Results represents changes in the upper layers of the furnace that are closer to heat source are higher. Decreasing surface temperature results in a smaller ∆T [4]. The difference between explicit and implicit method is because of the inherent errors of each method and time step selections.
