Abstract:
_ In recent years, developing countries production is increasing, and the amount of generated waste disposed in landfills, lead to a considerable attention must be paid to emissions from these sites. Methane is the main gas produced by the landfill activities. It would be imperative to estimate the production of methane, which is one of the energy carriers, as well as a greenhouse gas. The measurement of landfill gases is environmentally important due to the importance of these gases in global warming. The purpose of this study is to determine the amount of gases produced from Tehran landfill using LandGEM. To this end, the amount of waste generated in Tehran (from 2016 to 2036) was used. The results showed that gas production began at the start from 2016, and in 2037 the amount of generated gas will be the maximum amount. The amount of about 1.688E+5 mega grams of methane was produced in 2037. Taking into account the thermal value of methane gas equal to 50.1 MJ/kg, it can be admitted that the amount of methane obtained in 2037 would be about 8463632 mega jules of energy.
