The Integrated and Multidisciplinary Approach to Promote Lung Cancer Management in Tehran University of Medical Sciences

Tehran University of Medical Sciences affiliated hospitals provide care to a large fraction ofcancer patients not only in Tehran but also from all cities in Iran. Before 1393 there was no focalgroup dedicated to management of lung cancer patients or patients with lung metastasis orpulmonary complication of cancer treatment. The care was optimal but we decided to promote thecare so as a multi-disciplinary approach, an experienced dedicated medical team was formedincluding pulmonologist, thoracic surgeon, pathologist, radiation oncologist, medical oncologist,interventional radiologist, cardiologist (both intervention and echocardiographist) psychiatrist, andnuclear medicine specialist. With 3 year non-stop hard working in cancer patient selection,diagnosis and management, I can proudly introduce Median survival time nearly equal or evenlonger than literature reported times in all stages of lung cancer. We constellate several approachwhenever needed to promote the patients quality of life including interventional bronchologic,radio-frequency, microwave and trans-arterial chemo -embolization lung tumor debulking andablation.As the head of lung cancer management team, I feel so happy that we could save lives moreefficiently than previous years by a friendly and scientific team work.
