Endobronchial ultrasound transbronchial needle aspiration (EBUS-TBNA) has been started on19 March 2017 at Shiraz university of Medical Sciences Shiraz, Iran. We have performed EBUSTBNAunder general anesthesia in the operation room of Namazi hospital. After intravenousanesthesia induction, the airway was accessed through large endotracheal tube (in the majority ofpatients) or laryngeal mask. The obtained TBNA sample has been sent to laboratory in formalincontainer. Unfortunately we have not yet set the rapid on site evaluation (ROSE).Until May 2018, we have done 18 EBUS-TBNA procedures in our institution. Eleven ofpatients were men (61%). The mean (SD) age of patients was 52.76 (13.68). The EBUS-TBNA wasdone because of unexplained mediastinal and/or hilar lymphadenopathy in 13(73%), staging of lungadenocarcinoma in 2 (11%) cases, ruling out metastatic involvement of mediastinal lymph nodes in2 (11%) cases (gastrointestinal neuroendocrine tumor and colorectal tumor), mediastinal mass in 1(5%). The pathologic results of TBNA specimen were conclusive for diagnosis or staging in 13cases (73%). Except for minor bleeding in two patients, we had no clinically significantcomplication in this case series.
