Abstract:

Consequence modeling refers to the calculation or estimation of numerical values (or graphical representations of these) that describe the credible physical outcomes of loss of containment scenarios involving flammable, explosive and toxic materials with respect to their potential impact on people, assets, or safety functions. This paper presents recommended approaches to consequence modeling for explosion and jet fire of a leakage and catestrophic rapture in propane and n-butane storage tank, with the potential to cause harm to people, damage to assets and impairment of safety functions. Among consequence modeling softwares PHAST is explained and a case study is done in NGL refinery of Iranian offshore oil company (iooc) onshore facilities on the propane and n-Butane storage tanks. The results show that wind speed can affect jet fire’s radiation intensity and explosion overpressure distance noticeably.
