Abstract:

Introduction:Type one diabetes has a variety of destructive effects on natural function of different parts ofthe body. One of the most important parts of the body injured by the disease, are kidneynephrons. Diabetic nephropathy is the most serious complication in diabetes. It is known thatoxidative stress play a central role in the development of diabetic nephropathy. According tovarious references to Hypericumperfuratum with anti-oxidative effect in traditional medicine, this study was conducted to survey the effect of the plant on arrangement of glomerularkidney tissue of male rat in diabetic state.Materials and Methods:In this Experimental study, 32 male wistar rats, weighting around 200-250 grams, weredivided randomly into 4 groups: healthy control, healthy under treatment usingHypericumperfuratum, diabetic control, diabetic under treatment usingHypericumperfuratum. Type one diabetes induced by inter-peritoneal injection ofStreptozotocin with dose of 60mg/kg. Groups under treatment received 6.25 grams ofHypericumperfuratum with food intake. To develop awareness of diabetes, blood sample wasacquired from rats, first one week after the injection and then 6 weeks after the injection. Then the rats were anesthetized, the kidneys were removed by opening the peritoneal cavity. After making sections and Microtome cut paraffin blocks and slides prepared gelatin, glomerular morphology was observed using hematoxylin and eosin (H & E) stains.Quantifiable data resulted, was analyzed with one-way ANOVA test. Results:Diabetes mellitus in male rats caused a no significant increase in glomerular size anddisplacement in tissue compared to control group, and treatment of diabetic rats withHypericumperfuratum caused a no significant decrease in glomerular size compared todiabetic group. Conclusion:In general, it can be said that long term medication with Hypericumperfuratum in rats withdiabetes mellitus can partially protect glomerular tissue in kidneys, and reduce theirdisplacement.
