Abstract:

Introduction: The aim of this study was to investigate the association between serum level of arsenic and bladder cancer in people with bladder cancer in Kerman province.Materials and Methods: Our study was a cross-sectional study with control group, which was performed by simple non-random sampling on 40 pa ents with bladder cancer in the department of urology of Kerman from April 1394 for one year. The demographic data including name, age, sex, smoking, and opium consumption were asked by the researcher in the data collection checklist. Blood samples were taken for all patients without anticoagulant and then measured by atomic absorption method. Then allthe data were entered into the spss software for analysis. Results: The mean serum level of arsenic in the case group was 12.2 ± 1.04 μg / l and in the control group was 1.43 ± 0.73, which was sta s cally significant (P = 0.001). Conclusion: Our data showed that serum level of arsenic in patients with bladder cancer (case group) was higher than that of the control group, which was the result of previous studies on the role of arsenic carcinogens in urethral cells Bladder confirms. Also, other underlying variables such as urbanization, gender, smoking and opium in bladder cancer patients were not associated with the concentration of this element in serum between the two groups.
