Abstract:
This study was mainly designed and conducted to determine whether EFL learners’ use of requestive strategies are associated with their bilingualism. In so doing, 127 Persian and Lories EFL learners were conveniently sampled from intact classes in Shiraz and Yasuj, Iran. In order to collect the required data, a discourse completion test (DCT) which was developed by Schauer (2009) was administered to elicit the requestive strategies adopted by respondents and then classified based on Blum and Olshtain’s (1984) framework. The obtained frequencies were finally analyzed using descriptive statistics and Chi- square. The results indicated thatboth Persian and Lories learners tended to perform requestive speech act more indirectly rather than directly.Except for, conventionally indirect strategies, there were not any significant differences between Persian and lories learners in terms of their use of direct and non- conventionally indirect strategies
