Abstract:

This study investigated the effect of consciousness-raising method on Payame Noor University students’ recognition of prepositional collocations. The students were divided into four sub-groups (n=120), two male and two female (control and experimental) groups. The control groups had their traditional treatments but some consciousness–raising activities were provided for the experimental groups. At the end of the course, all groups took a multiple choice test. The results of T-test showed that the performance of the experimental groups is significantly better than the performance of control groups. Also based on these results, it can be concluded that there is not any significant difference between the male and female students’ performance on the achievement test. These findings confirm that consciousness-raising can foster a great deal in EFL collocation acquisition.
