Study the effect of Finasteride microemulsion gel on the treatment of men with mild to moderate Acne

Abstract:

Background: Acne vulgaris is a common disorder of adolescence which may lead to significant cosmetic and psychological problems. 70% of adolescents suffering from acne. One of the most common abnormalities that patients seek for skin care. Acne is a chronic and inflammatory disease that affects the sebaceous glands of the follicles and has a significant outbreak, especially among adolescents and young people. The objective of this randomized, double-blind clinical trial is evaluation of the effect of Finasteride microemulsion gel in the treatment of men with mild to moderate acne.Methods: In this study, 48 men with mild to moderate acne assigned into the study randomly and the subjects divided into two groups A and B randomly. Patients evaluated by a physician in terms of clinical manifestations of acne (number of lesions, acne severity, patient satisfaction). The two groups will be followed up for 3 months. Finasteride microemulsion gel twice in a day and 1% Clindamycin phosphate topical gel twice in a day will be administered for three months for group (A) and 1% Clindamycin phosphate topical gel twice in a day will be administered for three months for group (B). If any complications are detected, the patient will be excluded from the study. Then two weeks, one month, and three months after the intervention will be followed up respectively.Results: The mean age of the patients in the case group was 22.24 ± 0.7 years with a range of 15-28 years old and in the control group 21.7 ± 0.63 years with a range of age from 16 to 30 years. The mean of total papules at the onset of treatment was 5 ± 3.1 in the case group and 4.1± 4 in the control group and there was no significant difference between the two groups. At the end of the third month, the treatment group had a mean of 0.9 ± 0.3 in the case group and 1.1 ± 0.6 in the control group and the mean difference between the two groups was statistically significant.Conclusion: According to the results of this study, Finasteride microemulsion gel had a good effect on the therapeutic results and it is recommended to doctors and physicians.
