Abstract:
Recent advancement in the technology and increasing demand for electricity is made the distributed generation (DG), a viable alternative for performance improvement of distribution feeder. Moreover, flexible AC transmission system (FACTS) devices are playing a leading role in efficiently controlling the line power flow and improving voltage profiles of the power system network. The primary purpose , as a FACTS device, is usually to control voltages at weak points in )SVC(of static var compensator a network. In this study, SVCs are introduced as a device which maintains the nodal voltage magnitudes such as DGs. The goal of this study is to find the optimum locations and sizes of SVCs and DGs, simultaneously, that allows compensating for active and reactive power for minimizing the active losses. To show the results better, several scenarios for a real LV distribution network by using SVCs and DGs are defined and the results are compared with each other. The results show a reduction in active losses and voltage profile improvement in the distribution system with the implementation of the DGs and SVCs at the suitable location and optimal sizing.
