Abstract:

This paper investigates the torsional behavior of two singled-floor unreinforced brick buildings utilizing experimental method. One of the buildings is unreinforced brick building that is used as based specimen and the other building is completely similar to the base specimen the walls of which were strengthened with concrete overlay reinforced with steel mesh. Both of the specimens were subjected to monotonic torsional moment. Parameters of stiffness, strength, ductility and energy absorption of these two buildings were evaluated. This indicates that this type of strengthening improves the torsional behavior and increases the strength of the masonry brick buildings.
