Abstract:
In this study, the thermal stability of AA2124 aluminum alloy reinforced with different amounts (5 and%25) of intermetallics particles MoSi2 have been investigated. The production of this composite material was carried out using powder metallurgy. The aluminum alloy AA2124 powder was produced by gas atomization method and the MoSi2 intermetallic particles were produced through combustion synthesis. After mixing the Matrix and reinforcement powders with different Percentages (5,25% vol.) By ball mill. The blended powder mixture was encapsulated and then hot extruded to composite bars. Heat treatment was done and thus composite materials were produced with uniform distribution of reinforcing particles in the Matrix. Thermal cycling Environment were used for determine thermal stability. For evaluation effects of these testes have been employed SEM, EDX analysis. The results indicated that heat treatment improved the mechanical properties and these reinforcement also have high chemical stability and also the results of the pressure test showed that after both the oscillating heating operation, the strength of both composite specimens was reduced This is due to the aging of over-aging composites.
