Abstract:
Background and Objective: Musculoskeletal disorder (MSDs) as one of the most common occupational diseases arises from awkward body posture. A present intervention study was undertaken to assess the effect of two training methods on working body posture among bank staffs in the southeast of Iran. Materials and Methods: This study carried out on 120 bank staffs of eleven branches in Zahedan, southeast of Iran. Rapid Upper Limb Assessment (RULA) method was used for posture analysis. The subjects were randomly allocated into three groups. The intervention included a training course presented by oral lecture and e-mail. The third group considered as a control group without training. Findings: The mean RULA score before the intervention was 4.1±1.6, 4.15±1.14 and 4.19±1.4 in an e-mail, lecture and control groups, respectively (P=0.39). The mean RULA score after intervention reduced to 2.92±0.43, 2.87±0.56 and 3.97±1.6 (P=0.028) in an e-mail, lecture and control groups, respectively. The RULA scores in the two mentioned training methods had no statistically significant difference (P=0.6) but the control group was significantly different from two training methods (P<0.05). Conclusion: The study showed that both lecture and e-mail training methods significantly affected the body posture. As the electronic training is not usual in Iran and most of the staffs check their e-mail rarely, so the lecture teaching method could be more efficient than e-mail training.
