خلاصه مقاله:
Background: Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) causes gastroenteritis with diarrhea and arthritis and has two-dimensional process disturbance of Crohn s Disease (CD) and Ulcerative Colitis (UC). The decrease of bacteria with anti-inflammatory capacities and the increase of bacteria with inflammatory capacities are observed in patients with IBD when compared to healthy individuals. Fecal Microbiota Transplantation (FMT) is one of the newest therapeutic options available that regulates the structure of the intestinal microbial population and improves its performance. Methods: FMT provides a novel, perhaps complementary, strategy to restore the abnormal gut microbiome in patients with IBD as it aims to restore the intestinal microbiota in diseased individuals by transferring intestinal microbiota of healthy donors. Results: Clinical and experimental studies indicate that intestinal microbiota can exacerbate or improve IBD. Management strategies involving immune modulation are effective and widely used, but treatment failures and side effects occur most of the time, also many patients with IBD are treated for surgery, and their inflamed area is removed and clinical symptoms improved for several years after surgery, but after a while, the symptoms of IBD recur. Conclusion: This method has been successful in treatment of Clostridium difficile infection with high cure rate in clinical trials; therefore, FMT has recently attracted attention as a new therapeutic strategy in IBD too.
