Abstract:

Background: Functional dyspepsia is a common bothersome usually long-term disorder. Despite lack of confirmation with pathological assays medications affecting theeosinophils may results in some improvements. Disseminated distribution of mast cells also may be an important factor. Regarding the proposed associations and lack of evidenced-based data this study was done to assess the number of eosinophils and mast cell in duodenum in patients with functional dyspepsia versus healthy control subjects.Materials and methods: In this case-control study, 150 consecutive subjects in Kerman, Iran in 2015 and 2016 were enrolled including 100 patients with functional dyspepsia and50 asymptomatic healthy control subjects. The samples in two groups were compared for number of eosinophils and mast cells and helicobacter pylori presence by grasp biopsy. Results: The mean number of mast cells was significantly differed across the groups (P=0.001) but the eosinophil count was alike (P > 0.05). Also female gender, lack of opioiduse, and H. Pylori may result in increased mast cell count (P < 0.05). Conclusions: Totally, according to the results, it may be concluded that mast cells aresignificantly differed across those with and without functional dyspepsia but the eosinophil count is same.
