Nowadays, there is a great emphasis on L2 vocabulary learning in the language teaching curriculum.Furthermore, with the rise and predominance of modern technologies, especially computer- assisted language learning, teachers have profoundopportunities to benefit from these technologies in prompting L2 learning. The present studyinvestigates the effect of using multimedia on L2 vocabulary learning of Iranian languagelearners. To achieve this goal, sixty language learners were randomly assigned to two namely a multimedia group and a comparison group. ,participating groups The multimedia group received amultimedia-based instruction and watched ten video clips with subtitles. The comparison groupattended the teacher-fronted classes and read the texts of the movies. After ten sessions, theparticipating groups were given a posttest. The results showed that the participants who received multimedia instruction outperformed the participants in the comparison group who received only text. Also, the study concluded that video clips attract students’ attention, that is, the participants who were exposed to multimedia had more interest in attendingthe classes. Consequently, multimedia offers a rich context to learn vocabulary and the students are more motivated to attend in the classes which include teachingwith video clips
