In-Vitro bioactivity of methanol extract of the Nepeta kotschyi var. persica (Boiss.) Jamzad

The genus Nepeta L. comprises approximately 300 species,widely distributed in Eurasia. It is one of the largest genera of sub- family Nepetoideae, family Lamiaceae in southwestern Asia. Iran is one of the main origins of this genus with 79 species.Nepeta species are used as diuretic, diaphoretic, antitussive, antispasmodic, antimicrobial, antiasthmatic, febrifuge, emmenagogue, sedative agents, insecticidal, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant.Methanol extract of Nepeta kotschyi var. persica (Labiatae) was screened for antioxidant activities. Methanol extract of this plant exhibited a significant concentration dependent inhibition of DPPH radical. Furthermore, N. kotschyi var. persica showed very high reducing power
