خلاصه مقاله:
Background and Aim: Obesity and abdominal obesity are associated independently with multiple comorbidities including cardiovascular disease and cancer, and higher risk of all-cause mortality. There is a complex interaction between genetic, metabolic, and environmental factors in pathogenesis of obesity. The aim of this study was to investigate the interaction between dietary intakes of trace elements such as iron, copper, zinc, manganese, selenium and iodine with vascular endothelial growth factor variants (rs6921438, rs4416670, rs6993770, and rs10738760) on the risk of abdominal obesity in men. Methods: 105 men 35 to 65 years old were selected from Mashhad. Abdominal obesity was defined based on a waist circumference of > 102 cm. Dietary intake was measured with a 24 hour recall questioner and the daily average of energy and nutrients intake was calculated by using the Diet plan6 software. DNA was extracted from all participants. The SNPs were genotyped by Geno screen using a Sequenom iPLEX Gold assay. For data analysis the Students’t-test, the χ2 test and logistic regression were used. Data analysis was performed using SPSS 11.5 softwareResults: 74 men with WC> 102 cm were diagnosed in this study. All SNPs in both populations were in agreement with the Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium. There was a significant interaction between low Iodine intake with rs69214380 ( = -0.01, p<0.05) and low cupper intake with rs10738760 in association of abdominal obesity risk respectively ( = -2.16, p<0.05).Conclusion: The main finding of this study is that in association with abdominal obesity, low iodine and cupper intake had a negative interaction with rs69214380 and rs6921438variant respectively.
