Abstract:

Background and Aim: Reports in the country indicate that malnutrition in children is a major problem. One of the effective factors in improving the nutritional status of children is access to food, especially in needy households. In this study, the effect of the nutritional support program for children under the age of 5 years and the comparison of this program between2015and 2017was carried out. Methods: In this project, with the participation of the Imdad Committee,3300 children under the age of5years are identified in the cities covered by Ahwaz University who are suffering from malnutrition or developmental disorder and from households in need. They will be introduced to the Relief Committee, and they will receive a monthly basket of food for 2 period of six months, provided that the mother of these children is present at the nutrition skills training sessions held by the relevant health centers or home. Results: During the two stages of follow-up in 2015, 1657children(51.7%)were improved and during the two stages of its monitoring in2017, 1952 children(60.9%) have been improved. In the 2017 survey, the cities of Indika,Omidieh,Bawi,Hamidieh,Ramhormoz,Mahshahr,Haftokel and Hoveize had a recovery rate of less than50 percent. Conclusion: Considering the increase in the percentage of children s recovery during the years 2014 to 1395, it can be seen that the implementation of child support programs along with the enhancement of the scientific and practical skills of mothers about nutritional issues has had a positive impact on the development and growth of malnourished children, which required strengthening the program. As well as continuing education in the needy households.
