Abstract:

Background and Aim: Poly cystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is one of the most common endocrine disorders of reproductive age women. The aim of present study was to determine the effects of coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) supplementation on the endothelial dysfunction markers of women with PCOS.Methods: This randomized double-blind, placebo-controlled trial was conducted on 43 women diagnosed with PCOS aged 20–40 years old. Participants were randomized to receive either 200 mg CoQ10 supplements (n =22) or placebo (n =21) for 8 weeks. Results: At the end of 8 weeks intervention, 200 mg CoQ10 supplementation resulted in significant reduction in ICAM-1,VCAM-1 and E-selectin (P < 0.05) compare with placebo. Conclusion: COQ10 supplementation for 8 weeks had significantly beneficial effects on endothelial dysfunction variables in PCOS patients.
