Abstract:
Resin transfer molding (RTM) is a widely used manufacturing technique for composite parts. The focus of attention is kept on weldline behavior in parts of complex geometry, i.e. the composite engine cover which is placed on top of cylinder head in TOYOTA car (Camry 2007). By simulating the filling process using simulation software Moldflow, the fiber orientation behavior was investigated in weldline zones and the best injection spot for filling process of this part, by comparing the weldline zones, determined. Hence, best injection spot could help reduce the weldline area and a distinct information about fiber orientation manner in weldline zones placed in high sensetive areas of finished part could help researchers and product development engineers dealing with composites to minimize zones with weak mechanical points in plastic parts.
