Abstract:

Ionic liquids as a designer adjustable solvent can be used in diverse fields. 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium thiocyanate, [BMIM] SCN, is novel one of these combinations thatsynthesised and characterized successfully. This IL utilized for extraction, desulfurization, separation, electrolysis mediate and Li-ion super capacitor enhancer [1-2]. Studied mixtureselectrochemical aspects is clear and growing while there is no information about [BMIM] SCNinteractions with different solvent structures, so that the origin of matter must be clearance. Forunderstanding interactions in solutions of ILs, volumetric and transport properties are idealbecause of ILs intrinsic properties such as low vapour pressure and high thermal stability.Density (ρ), speed of sound (u) and viscosity (η) of Water and propylene carbonate solutions of[BMIM]SCN studied in the presence of different concentrations of lithium bromide at T =298.15K. Apparent molar volume (Vφ), apparent molar isentropic compressibility (κφ) valuesobtained for studied solutions and Redlich-Mayer type of equation utilized for correlation ofexperimental volumetric values and Jones-Dole equation used for correlation of viscosity dataand obtaining of viscosity B- coefficient. Interesting information resulted from lithium bromideeffect on solute-solvent interactions of [BMIM] SCN in water and propylene carbonate as proticand aprotic solvents respectively.
