Abstract:
Metal matrix composites are materials in which the properties of a metallic host material aremodified by the addition of a different type material (for example a ceramic) [1-3]. The presentwork aims to prepare electrodeposited Ni-W/PTFE composite coatings using four different PTFEplating baths and to evaluate their corrosion behavior by open circuit potential (EOCP),electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and polarization studies in 1N H2SO4 solution. The surface morphology and composition of the composite coatings were characterized byscanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) measurements and X-raydiffraction analysis (XRD). The SEM and XRD results presented that the incorporation of PTFEparticles causes a significant change in structure of the Ni-W/PTFE composite coatings. Thecorrosion study exhibited significant shift in corrosion potential towards the noble direction, decrease in corrosion current density, increase in charge transfer resistance and decrease indouble‐layer capacitance values with the incorporation of PTFE particles in the Ni-W matrix.
