Abstract:

Valves are widely used in various industries and, depending on the circumstances and varieties, it is in charge of rectifier, blocking, flowing, and mixing fluid flow inside the pipes. One of the varieties of industrial valves is spherical valves. In this article, a spherical valve is modeled numerically and the mixture model is used to compute the cavitation phenomenon. The results showed that in spherical valve, three main vortices described the hydrodynamics flow. The outcomes indicate that the existence of third vortex can have a great effect on the extent of the pressure drop region against the spherical valve, and cavitation occurs in high angles of spherical valve. Hence, by the pattern attained in the present paper, spherical valves can be used to control the flow, by adjustment the period of use in regions where there is no possible occurrence of intense cavitation.
