Curves and surfaces are important elements in computer aided geometric design.Machining of complex surfaces like B-spline, Bezier and NURBS are difficult and more complicated. This paper presents a computer aided design and machining system called CAMSURF developed specifically for the three complex surfaces using a unique minimum distance algorithm for machining on the computer numerical control (CNC) machines. The system generates the desired surface with user specified tolerance, graphically simulates the cutter path of the defined surfaces and generates the required CNC programs. The paper presents the innovative features of the system and compares the results of CAMSURF with those of a commercially available CAD system.
