Efficacy of Aromatherapy on Anxiety with Essential Oil of Rose in Breast Cancer Patient in Pilot Study

Introduction: Today we see an increase in breast cancer survivors due to early detection and screening programs. Anxiety is one of the most common complications in breast cancer patients, which decreases their quality of life and has economic burden for communities. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of aromatherapy on anxiety with essential oil of rose on patients with breast cancer.Method: In this pilot study, thirty breast cancer women who were undergoing rutine treatment, were conduct in to two groups of intervention and control. The intervention group were asked to use essential oil of rose every nights, before sleeping. For two weeks all patients received usual care and therapeutic protocol during the study. The instrument for evaluating the effect of the Aroma therapy was the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HRSD) standard questionnaire. They were assessed before and after study.Results: In the intervention group before and after the study was different (p <0.05), the anxiety level in the control group before and after the study was not different (p > 0.05), also in the intervention group, the anxiety level was significantly lower than the control group (p <0.05).conclusion: The results of this study showed that essential oil of rose on anxiety in patients with breast cancer has a good effect and it is recommended that it can be used as a low-risk and effective alternative treatment for improving the anxiety of patients with breast cancer.
