Abstract:

Background and Purpose: Depression is one of the most important post-natal psychiatric disorders. In case of lack of attention and treatment, it can have irreparable effects on mother, child and family. The aim of this study was to measure the rate of postpartum depression in two groups of mothers with normal delivery and cesarean section. Methods: This study was reviewed of literature from 2009 to present.A search was preformed for articles in PubMed, Embase, the Cochrane library, Proquest, science direct and Google scholar. Results: This study included 59.2% of mothers with normal delivery and 50% of mothers with cesarean delivery at age of 25 years and below. 12% of women during pregnancy and 13% of them after delivery have both normal and caesarean sectional depression. The history of depression increases the risk of major depression in postpartum to 25%. Of those who experienced postpartum depression, 47% were normal delivery and 53% were cesarean delivery. Conclusion: The results showed that the mean postpartum depression was significantly different between two groups of mothers with normal delivery and cesarean sectioned mothers. Broader studies are recommended to determine the extent, complications and prevention of the disease.
