Abstract:

Back ground: Preeclampsia is one of the most serious complications of pregnancy and is one the major causes of maternal death during pregnancy. The cause of preeclampsia still remains unknown.Prevention of pre-eclampsia is a big step forward to avoiding the maternal and fetal complications associated with the gestational diseases. Numerous tests have been recommended as predictor of pre-eclampsia. Among the tests, in the present study the predictive value of three screening tests, including serum uric acid, roll-over test and body mass index (BMI) is combines was estimated. Methods: A cohort study was conducted on a number of nulliparous pregnant women (n=405; gestational period= 28-32 wks). Maternal weight and height, including serum uric acid, urine protein, and blood pressure were measured in each antenatal visit until the delivery time. Results: Maternal serum uric acid levels at the cut-off value of 5.7 mg/dl achieved a positive predictive value (PPV) of 62.20% and a negative predictive value (NPP) of 94.00%; whereas , roll-over test had a PPV of 35.71% and a NPP of 93.69%. The relationship between BMI and the risk of pre-eclampsia was progressive, and with the BMI > = 29 kg/m2 PPV was 34.00% and NPV was 92.95%.Conclusion: It has been concluded that evaluation of including serum uric acid, roll-over test and BMI in combination, at each antenatal visit may improve the prediction of pre-eclampsia.
