Wheelchairsare only devices that can substantially improve the mobility of a person when she/he doesnot even have the ability to walk with walking aids. Driving manual wheelchairs can causemany complications, especially in permanent wheelchair users like those with SCI or doublelower extremity amputation.Materials and methods: This study is a fundamental applied research and design andconstruction that led to the laboratory sample. In this research, the related resources werestudied and studied first. Then, during the design and implementation phase of the project,after calculating the appropriate dimensions of the tool, 3D model of ergonomic handrimby CATIA were prepared and the sample was constructed by a 3D printer.Results: Manual wheelchairs users often experience pain in their shoulder, wrists and handsbecause of their repeated use of them for pushing handrims. To eliminate defects in existing handrims, new ones have been designed. Ergonomic handrims Which are produced indeveloped countries, are expencive. We designed an alpha prototype of modern ergonomichandrim and printed out it by a 3D printer.Conclusion: Designing and manufacturing an ergonomic handrim, which is capable ofreplacing conventional driving handrim in a manual wheelchair, has an important role inincreasing the comfort and prevention of upper extremity disorders in manual wheelchairsusers.
